Jennifer Jones asks, concerning the Leblanc group picture: "That is
really cool. Now, if someone could name the characters in the
play, it would be grand!"

Gladly. From left to right:

Eb
EEb octo-contra
Bb bass (to Eb)
Bb
BBBb octo contra
A
Ab sopranino
BBb paperclip contra
alto
basset horn
Bb bass (to C)
C
D
Eb paperclip contra

They also made a straight Eb contra and another in an exaggerated bass
clarinet shape, and a straight BBb contra, which you had to stand to
play. The early paperclip BBb contra (and, presumably the Eb contra)
went only to low D. The early straight contras may or may not have
gone to low Eb.

They made, and probably still make, make a basset clarinet in A, for
the Mozart Concerto and Quintet.

They listed the octo-contras in a catalog but never put them into
production. I think the Ab sopranino, the D and the C were always
special order items, and they and all the contras are now out of
production.

For more on the octo contras, see

The links are obsolete, though.
