Collier's book (I have a copy which I checked) doesn't say anything useful
and doesn't provide any primary references on the topic.
If someone like Gunther Schuller has written anything about Bartok/Goodman
connection, it *would* be worth chasing up.

James Lincoln Collier's biography of Goodman. There may be better Goodman
bios, but that's the one I know and own.

Halsey Stevens' biography of Bartok.

these books might point to more primary source material - don't know for
sure, and don't have time to check right now.

Also, Maureen Hurd (Hause) did her thesis on some of Goodman's classical
commissions. She's at Rutgers U in New Jersey (US), dissertation at Yale.
