Quintet of the Americas in Concert on October 20 at Queensborough =

Community College in Bayside, Queens

New York, NY =96 Quintet of the Americas woodwind ensemble will be in =

concert on Wednesday, October 20 =96 1:15 PM at Queensborough Performing =

Arts Center Theater on the campus of Queensborough Community College, =

22205 56th Avenue in Bayside, Queens, New York. This program is =

presented in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month and is sponsored by =

Queensborough Community College Music Department concert series - 2010-2011.

Repertoire for this concert includes Judah Adashi=92s Songs and Dances of =

Macondo, based on Gabriel Garcia Marquez' One Hundred Years of Solitude, =

William Grant Still=92s Folk Suite No 4 and Adolorido and Yaravi from =

Miniatures, Paquito D=92Rivera=92s Aires Tropicales, Carl MaultsBy=92s Stil=
l =

Rockin in Jerusalem, Leonard Bernstein=92s Danzon (arr. Oldham), James =

Cohn=92s Samba Nostalgica and Finale from Fiesta Latina, Piazzolla's =

Libertango and a selection of Colombian dances.

This performance is part of Daniel Pearl World Music Days, an annual =

global concert network affirming the ideals of tolerance, friendship and =

our shared humanity.

Members of Quintet of the Americas are Sato Moughalian, flute, Matt =

Sullivan, oboe, Nicholas Gallas, clarinet, Barbara Oldham, horn and =

Maureen Strenge, bassoon. Founded in Bogota, Colombia in 1976, the =

Quintet has specialized in bringing music new music from the Western =

hemisphere to audiences in the United States since its arrival in New =

York in 1979. The group has enjoyed an international career that has =

taken them to concert halls throughout the Americas, the Caribbean, and =

Eastern Europe. They are currently in residence in The Department of =

Music and Performing Arts in The Steinhardt School at New York =
