I took a class many years ago at CalSate-LA in instrument repair. It served me well as a school music teacher, and has allowed me to do much of the work on my own instruments. The right tools, corks, pads, shims, etc. are the key, plus lots of patience. I've taken dents out of saxes and brass instruments, but not clarinets. The person that said dents, if they don't compromise the tone holes or air flow, is correct. I recently had a Penzel-Mueller double wall metal clarinet restored, and it plays like a dream, only after two trips to the restoration company. Initially the clarinet wouldn't play at all, but they did re-seat many of the pads and adjust the key height, for a successful job.

Good luck! Even the best single wall metal clarinets don't play very well, so don't expect an R-13 in disguise.
