Well, the NY Phil had a big TV opening playing a work by Clinton Marsallis (sp??), and with three clarinets. Playing first was Nuncio, second was a young woman who of whom I had no knowledge, and the bass part was also a young woman about whom I know nothing.

Nuncio played beautifully with only a very minor miss on a high note. The 2nd and bass appeared satisfactory. The key work was the Hindemith Symphonic Metamorphosis, which has a kill bass part in the last movement, and the player took it in stride.

Can someone tell me something about what appears to be the new section? Who are these people?

Mind you, I have been watching clarinet player in the NYP since before McGinnis.

Dan Leeson

P.S. The entire first half of the concert was a piece for jazz band and symphony. I thought it would never end.
