Bear in mind the complexity of what you are asking for here. You are
asking for a program to take a 2D grid of pixels, and from that derive
the detailed semantic representation of the music.

Your own brain, which is in many ways far better suited to the task than
a desktop computer, has difficulty with that one. :-)

Regenerating music from e.g. a Finale-produced PDF is simpler, because
there you have an image composed of vector graphics elements with some
degree of regularity and predictability, that correspond to a high
degree with the internal semantic data structures of the program.

... but it's still damn complicated. I've seen inside the code of music
engraving software, and it's not something I would like to have to try
and recreate ... :-)
