Sleep guards have a layer that doesn't conform when you heat them and are
far more bulky and uncomfortable. I use the football/sports guards, heat
them and thin them down and cut to size before molding to my teeth. They
are infinitely reheatable in boiling water and stretch quite thin.. I use
them all the time, and have one that I even perform with now; it smooths out
the irregularities of my lower teeth and helps with some of the shifting
they have done over the years. I just keep working them until they feel
comfortable. I get guards at the local Play It Again Sports for about
$1.50. The clear ones are completely unnoticeable.
