Subj: [kl] Urtext project suggestions

Hi Oliver,

Those are all very interesting suggestions -- I'm not familiar with
_any_ of them, so they will be great to discover. Thank you very much! :-)

Microfilm is somewhat before my time so I have no idea how to work with
it -- what would be an appropriate way to share these documents? Is it
possible to transfer the microfilms to high-quality scans/PDFs? I would
be reluctant to have the carefully-gathered originals leave your safe hands.

Interesting wind works do look like a good path to take, because I'm
informed by a fellow Lilyponder that some French bassoonists are
thinking along similar "collaborative urtext" lines.

Anyway, I'd like to ask for a few more recommendations.

First, in order to assist on the technical side, could anyone recommend
a work that is _small_ and that has well-identified (and available)
sources and established scholarship? The reason I say "on the technical
side" is because it would be useful to be able to experiment with
Lilypond to see how best to support the Urtext production process.

Second, some other works that crossed my mind are the Reger sonatas and
quintet, since I understand these are quite fine and I'm not aware of
any scholarly editions -- but I don't know the copyright status.

Third, In Europe at least the Berg 4 Pieces are out of copyright; Henle
has produced an Urtext edition, but I rather resented the way which they
messed around with the layout on the page (something Berg is known to
have been very fussy about), so this might also be worth looking into.
(To be honest, I just want to enjoy the challenge of engraving Berg's
meticulous notation...:-)

Fourth, let's open the floor to more suggestions, with the focus being
on works (they don't have to be for clarinet or even woodwind) that are
interesting but that have been neglected in terms of scholarly editions.

Thanks and best wishes,

-- Joe
