Hi all
As a player who often has to carry both a bassoon and a Low A Contra case round with me I don't have a lot of sympathy with complaints about the weight of a 3 clarinet wooden case; but have you considered getting a lightweight duralumin case & some foam and fitting it out yourself.

For three or four clarinets, go for a Wiseman case.

I can recommend the trough case - very flexible. - but there is also a more
set version available. Both are shown on the site.

Since you have case knowledge, perhaps you can help me out.

My clarinet instructor said he's willing to sell me a double BAM case that
he
doesn't use anymore. My triple, in addition to having the zipper pulls
broken
off, now has both hinges broken. The fabric is the only thing holding the
top on
and the case doesn't close evenly now. The backpack straps are the only
thing
holding it together. He didn't specify the type (trekking, xlight, etc., and
I
never thought to ask). He said if I remind him, he will bring it to my
lesson
next week so I can take a look at it. I'm not sure how much he wants for it.

I've never owned a BAM case for Bb/A; are they any good? I used to have a
trekking case for 2-part bass clarinet (low Eb) and I really liked it. I
used to
carry everything but the kitchen sink to some rehearsals and I really liked
the
backpack straps. My current case has them, but I never used them for that
purpose because 1) music would fall out as that pocket would be sideways,
and 2)
I could never adjust the straps so the case wasn't bouncing everywhere. The
straps on the BAM bass case were nicely snug and held the case still against
my
back.

I have a bag that I carry all my toys in. All I put in my case currently
accessory-wise is my pull-through swab and cork grease. He said the zipper
broke
off on the accessory compartment, but all I would put in there is my
orchestra
folder, so I don't need to worry about that (it sticks out unzipped in my
current case. Ironically, that's the only zipper I haven't managed to break
off).

My current triple is a Gigliotti case. I didn't think I was rough with it.
Is it
a good case in that I shouldn't have done as much damage to it as I have? I
only
had it a couple of years and don't want to replace cases that often. I do
have a
replacement eefer case that I bought. The thing I don't like about it is
that
the accessory slot is so small, I can't store my mouthpiece with lig/cap
(Rovner
Lite) in the case. But, I suppose I can add that to my bag of tricks.

Thanks for you help. Any advice is appreciated.

Rachel
