Mr./Dr. (?) Leeson,

I have thought of improvising on the Mozart concerto before. My main reasons for that was because ( I am a huge fan of baroque music) often, on the repeat of a section you would embellish in baroque. Since classical is overlapping that time period I always thought on the recapitulation it should be a little different.

My problem is since I am still an amateur player, do you still suggest that I would improvise? I've always been one to say to just do it how you always will. However, when I change simple things like a forte or a staccato I get remarks from various teachers to the effect of ... "oh God, who told you to do THAT in that measure??!?!"
Someone may fall off their seat if they hear an extra note that isn't on the page. So I guess my question is, would you say that for young players, we should still learn it cut and dry or learn (the right way) to elaborate?

Tom
