Gary,

When playing either my Buffet low C bass (low C on the body) or my vintage
Bundy contra alto clarinet, I'm at the mercy of the chair height. Like
porridge, sometimes one chair is too low and two chairs stacked is too high. To
get it just right, I learned a trick from a diminutive harpist friend. She
bought two black chair cushions from Bed Bath & Beyond (about $10 each), sewed
them together on the back seam, and now plays either "one-cushion" or
"two-cushion" gigs. While they're not waterproof (bad news for some outdoor
events), I use the same trick, especially when sitting on hard plastic chairs,
just to be nice to my backside.

Whatever works...

Don
