Michael Bryant informs me(*) that the Quintet was first published by
Boosey & Hawkes in 1906 (with an introduction by Joseph Joachim!). So,
that should leave us clear on the copyright front at least, and gives us
a second line of approach in tracking down first editions, proofs and
corrections, etc. He also provided a couple of contacts at the RCM
library to approach for information and permissions.

Does anyone experienced in dealing with libraries have any advice for
how best to approach them?

Thanks & best wishes,

(* He also suggested a few other not-well-known works that could be
worth pursuing: the three quintets by Alexander Brent Smith, and the
quartet fragment by Zemlinsky. Thoughts?)
