I'll address the other issues later. The Coleridge-Taylor ('the African
Mahler') works are a very interesting suggestion. Many of his works are
public domain as he died more than 70 years ago. But some works were not
published in his lifetime. (see the Wiki article). They were picked up by
Patrick Meadows and published in 1999. They would come under 'orphan works'
legislation and the copyright would be held by Meadows. That is true of the
piano quintet but I don't know about the others.

I think actually that Meadows would not hold the copyright in the USA, which
has different orphan legislation, but in the UK it runs till 2013 I think -
have to check.

If there is a poor edition published in C-T's lifetime, that would be
perfect. Do you know when the clt quintet and nonet were first published?

(Copyright in an orphan work which is known to be out of copyright by the
author, as in this case, is held in the EU by whoever first publishes it.
That's why museums and collections are often reluctant to let scholars see
their old manuscripts as they think they can make money from them. The EU
legislation is changing, but not for a while. US changed in 1990 I think,
and the PD just goes on the death of author + 70 years).
