When you buy a new mouthpiece wipe it inside a out with a clean cloth befor=
e you put in your case, keep it out of sunlight and warm water and you will=
never need any other cleaning. =A0If the mouthpiece is not cleaned regular=
ly, calcium deposits form, just like if you never brush your teeth. =A0Over=
time there will be discoloration of the hard rubber but there should be no=
build up of anything inside the mouthpiece. =A0If you don't like discolora=
tion of rubber mouthpieces use a plastic mouthpiece.

For the record:

A ~1 hour soak in a 5% solution of room temperature (~78F) distilled
white vinegar did not remove the white/tan deposits and turned my
Selmer C85 mouthpiece green. In addition to turning the region below
the liquid green, fumes also turned the portion above the liquid line
green. The portion of the submerged facing also became paler. My
mouthpiece now has a vinegar induced "suntan". The cork was not
submerged
