Might I suggest an alternative method that I've successfully used for many
years. Simply soak a mpc in a 3% hydrogen peroxide solution. In the process
of removing the organic matter from the mpc, the bubbling action (you'll be
amazed at the "stuff" that remains even after careful swabbing) also
loosens the inorganic "plaque." A subsequent mechanical cleaning with a soft
bristle toothbrush and toothpaste finishes the job and leaves a very
"pleasant-tasting" mpc. Hydrogen peroxide is also an excellent way to "rejuvenate" cane
reeds.
