I don't see any purpose to producing yet another edition of K. 361 at this =

juncture of history. Nor do I understand how anyone could approach the wor=
k =

without reading "gran Partitta," which I wrote to address the problems of =

producing an edition of this very composition. (What are you going to do =

about measure 111 in the fifth movement?) You can get it on line at =

Amazon.com, or go to leesonbooks.com to get an idea of the nature and =

content of the book. I think it is a good read.

In addition to the B=E4renreither edition edited by Neal Zaslaw and me, and =

the Henle edition edited by Henrik Wiese, there is also an excellent =

edition edited by Roger Hellyer and published by Emerson. Fred Fennell als=
o =

prepared an edition published by Ludwig Music (now E. F. Kalmus of Boca =

Raton, Florida). This last edition was done for the purpose of describing =

how Fred liked the piece to be played and that took a higher precedent than =

a literal reading of the manuscript. This is not a criticism of Fennell's =

work. It was he who first introduced me to the piece in 1956, and for whic=
h =

I am eternally grateful.

As for the first edition issued by the Bureau des arts et Industrie, forge=
t =

about it. To even consider using it as a basis for another edition would be =

unworthy of any contemporary editor.
