Dear Don,

I guess I've never prepared a clarinet resume of sorts, so here is one:

I probably joined Klarinet in 1997 or 1998 on the recommendation of my
instructor Donald Blasick. I have been playing clarinet for about 20
years. I started with (weekly? I don't think it was twice a week)
group lessons in fourth and fifth grade and continued with band
through middle school (third chair; I refused to move up.). I played
marching band and wind ensemble in high school (section leader jr. &
sr. years; that is when I started studying w/Don Blasick) and played
the tenor saxophone my senior year in the jazz band. I have tried
alto saxophone. My embouchure has always been too tight to play the
saxophone low notes reliably. I aspire to try an eefer, a bass and an
alto clarinet. 'twould be cool to try a contrabass clarinet:) In
high school, I also played with a local youth symphony orchestra for a
year or two (I'd forgotten that. It met once or twice a week). When
I was working on my botany and biochemistry bachelor's degrees, I
played clarinet in the orchestra and wind ensemble (second chair).
The music department had a scholarship program that offered weekly
lessons with participation in performing ensembles. I studied with
Donald Foster. I played soprano (eek!), alto and tenor (my favorite)
recorders, and alto crumhorn in Collegium Musicum. I stopped playing
regularly when I stopped school. Though, I would pick the clarinet up
for a week or a month at at time. There was a period of two years
when I did not play at all. That probably ended last winter. I found
that I had gone extremely flat, or a member of the household had the
tuner set to 445 Hz. I didn't check; I didn't care and I was playing
with a friend who played cello and didn't care either. I have been
playing nearly daily since I started posting to the list again in mid
August. I am in tune now with the tuner set to 440. I signed off
sometime in college? I signed back on a year or so ago? Anyone who
has authoritative information is welcome to amend this.

Sincerely,

Jennifer Jones
