I'm relatively suspicious of all this precious mouthpiece "received wisdom".
I can remember my teacher years ago producing breathtaking sound from my
poor B&H 77 instrument with a piece of white plastic as a mouthpiece. I
could only aspire to make such a sound.

I firmly believe that the player is more important than the mouthpiece.
(Note "more" is the important qualifier in the previous sentence before you
fire off a counter blast.)

As for all this cleaning it just smacks of a neurotic reaction - a simple
wipe with an absorbent cloth is all that is required. If deposits seem to
build up maybe it's the players oral hygiene that needs attention.

I used to wipe my mouthpiece inside and out. I was very consistent
about it in high school, when I saw the microbial film that can build
up on the baffle (undoubtedly elsewhere too; the baffle is the most
visible part).
