Yes, you need one for a vocalist (which we don't have) and announcements,
but trying to amplify a 15-piece band with one mic is a shaky proposition at
best.

At least potentially, yes. That is one of the reasons in a band or
orchestra, the trumpets sit in the back. That, and they would be COMPLETELY
insufferable if they were in front! :-)
