Cork grease would provide lubricant that I would reduce friction
between wood-wood contact. Obviously, serious wood binding needs more
than cork grease. (This would be where every last molecule of cork
grease is squeezed out as the components come together.) Nonetheless,
Dick Williams did not say what he thought the problem was. He only
said that the barrel-upper joint were stuck together. I am not
arguing against other people's suggestions. They sound quite good. I
am simply adding that use of cork grease reduces friction and makes it
easier to get the pieces apart. There are presumably a lot of people
reading this, including some newbie clarinetists (e.g. those to whom
Lelia wrote the warning about cigarette papers in clarinet cases at
school) and relatively seasoned amateurs like me for whom it can't
hurt to hear such a reminder.

For example, the trouble I was having with water in my G#/C# key
appears to have been mostly solved by not lying my clarinet down with
the G#/C# tone hole down.

Sincerely,

Jennifer Jones
