Not meant as a challenge, it's just something I see every day, not just
here. People coming up with grand schemes and lamenting that no one is
implementing them. It's amazing how little gets done when no one is
working on the problem ...

Your email client totally encoded the message as an 8-bit MIME encoded
stream (rather like the old uuencode method) rather than sending text,
plain, UTF-8, or otherwise. Tell it not to ... the mailman program
decoded it for the digest into something legible, and my mail client was
able to decode the stream, but what it looks like in the online archives
is pretty much how it actually comes across to an individual client.
