No it does not affect my cork. At least not that I am aware of. I make su=
re the mouthpiece and cork are thoroughly dry before putting away. Soft pap=
er towel (charmin) is good for drying them. I use plenty of cork grease on =
them too while in use in order to keep them from becoming too dried out and=
brittle. So far have not had any problems with the cork. =
