Richard,

No my teacher has not tried blowing into my instrument to test the reed, mouthpiece, clarinet as a whole. He will look at my fingering to see that my fingers are covering the holes properly.

As for steriiizing the mouthpiece, would those handy wipes towelettes that you can find in any CVS or Walgreens work? I have seen professional clarinet players use those, too, for sterilizing the clarinet mouthpiece.
