Luddite Lloyd here.

Physical CD. I can import it into iTunes later, but I have only had the
option to listen to things online in the last few weeks. I'm a late convert
to the iPod generation, and only have one by virtue of my iPhone.

No-one else in my family has an iPod or similar, save for my brother in law
who isn't interested in music, as he listens to pop/rock/assorted bangs and
crashes. (Take your pick).

There are very few people I would buy an iPod for, yet there are people I
buy music for. You'll lose a lot of audience being download only, I wager.

Subject: [kl] survey: all digital vs CD release

I am helping my husband, composer Edward Marcus, work through a release of
some of his chamber music for clarinet with a label in New England. We have

a choice of releasing it as a traditional CD with digital downloads
available on Amazaon, etc., or simply releasing it in purely digital format.

If we do digital only, we get digital download cards that we can sell or
give away, which allows for the download of the entire album. The artwork
online is pretty much the same as would be done for a physical CD, but you
may need to be directed to a different page for more details on players,
etc. I believe it would be available as mp3, wav, or lossless files,
depending on your preferences.

1. How do you feel about the need for a physical CD?
2. How important to you is the the availability of a physical CD?
3. Do you prefer to simply download the tracks and works you are most
interested in, and leave the rest?
4. Does the physical CD and packaging make a huge difference to you in
whether you would listen to the music?

Thanks for your help!
Penny Ward Marcus
