Hey Jennifer
You can indeed leave the end open when sending the warm breath through the bore.
The other way is to send weak gusts of warm breath in a closed off joint but you've got to remove
your mouth at intervals.
Just a test: hold your hand before your mouth and open and close your mouth. Do not breathe out
hold your breath. That movement alone sends out air. You will feel the hottest air then.

Kind regards. I read in the last few threads that the cigarette paper issue has been discussed at
lenght!

I was wondering if there was a strategy to get air through the tone
holes. (e.g. close off the bottom tenon and blow warm air so that it
goes through the toneholes, but I couldn't think of any significant
reason to restrict warm air going out of the bottom tenon).

What you describe sounds more like what I do to check for air leaks
around the pads. I will close the tone holes with my left hand and
close the tenon with my right and blow as hard as I can. Another
method I use is to pull a vacuum by sucking to look for air coming
into the joint from the outside.

I guess I will have to look for one here. Thank you for the suggestion.

Sincerely,
