I use a Koppenbarger (?) silk swab- I pass it through the horn just
once. At the end of the session I pass it through the horn again
just once, from BARREL to BELL (opposite of what I see most people
do.) The thought on that is that there is more moisture at the top
of the horn, and passing the swab from top to bottom more evenly
distributes this moisture, evenly wetting the wood. It probably
doesn't matter though. I pass it through just once to minimize the
number of times I am "sanding" the bore out of specs. After 50 years
of playing this horn(!) that just might be making a difference!
