Subj: [kl] What is "undercutting" (referred to the clarinet bore)?
Date: Wed, 11 Aug 2010 03:48:16 -0400

Dear all,

I have a technical-linguistic question about the paper which started the
discussion now going on in the "Bass Part - Rachmaninov 2" thread (this
is just incidental: I do not want to comment on such thread). The paper
is http://www.woodwindcourse.co.uk/user/image/clarinet_bore_design.doc
and mentions "undercutting" in few places, referred to the clarinet bore
and/or to the tone holes. My English is not good enough to precisely
understand the meaning of what sounds as a technical jargon of wind
instrument producers, and I would greatly appreciate if someone could
make me understand what it means in details.

Thanks in advance,
Diego
