I have been avidly collecting classical sheet music for clarinet for
the past 50 years. Here is my shot at this:

>1. Where do you purchase music? (music store, online, conventions, etc.)
Before the internet, I bought at Patelson's (NYC), Schirmers
(NYC), and to a lesser extent other hole in the wall stores that
existed in Midtown Manhattan at that time. This is where the vast
majority of my collection came from. Occasionally Jerry Pierce and I
communicated and I was very lucky to have found some obscure
literature there. Later I discovered other major dealers around the
country and dealt with them by mail order. Now I have most of the
literature that I desire, but with the advent of the internet have
found sites that sell unpublished or out of print sheets
(adrianoamore.it). So I have been filling in my collection with
fabulous out of print really flashy works that are very satisfying to play.

>2. If you buy music online, how do you prefer to listen to excerpts?
>(mp3, scorch, etc.)
MP3.

>3. Do you take the time to listen to musical excerpts when visiting a website?
Yes, then pursue the sheets if it interests me.

>4. If you buy music online, what format do you prefer?
>(print-on-demand, hard copy, etc.)
I prefer hard copy, but where none exists, will print it
myself. No matter how hard I try, there is nothing like a
professionally printed copy though

>5. Do you find the lesser cost and immediate availability of
>print-on-demand music beneficial?
Cost does not matter to me- if I want it, I get it.

>6. What influences you when purchasing music? (colleague or teacher
>recommendation, reviews, having heard the piece on a recording, radio or live)
Having heard the piece and wanting to perform it.

>7. Do you purchase only standard repertoire or do you seek out new
>contemporary music?
For the most part, standard repertoire. I never understood
why the term "music" was used with some of the contemporary efforts
that seem to me just to be a "look at what I can do with my horn"
task rather than "listen to how beautiful this sounds."

>8. Is the economy affecting your purchasing of music?
Not at all.
