For our American readers who probably won't know of him:
Timothy Reynish was for a long time one of the leading hornists in the UK a=
nd latterly the head of the wind instrument dept. of the ROyal Northern Sch=
ool of Music. As well as being a superb player (I remember a brilliant Spo=
hr Octet at Canford) he is also an excellent conductor.

CASTELNUOVO-TEDESCO: I am particularly happy to see Elsa Ludewig-Verdehr's =
splendid performance of the Castelnuovo-Tedesco Sonata available again. Th=
is long and difficult work, challenging both musically and technically, has=
been in my view one of the signature pieces in the solo repertory of Ludew=
ig-Verdehr =85 It is hard to imagine a more satisfying performance. Not on=
ly are technical hurdles made to sound easy and fluent, but both players ha=
ve obviously made a commitment to dig below the surface and probe the music=
al depths of this substantial work. It is certainly a performance to cheri=
sh.
DAHL: these can certainly be considered authoritative performances. =

HINDEMITH: This recording dates from around this time (ca. 1948), and clear=
ly shows why Williams was esteemed as one of the leading players of his day=
: a clear, rich sound, fine control and ensemble sense, and spot-on intonat=
ion.
