I will concede the difference in duration, but only because intellectual property is most valuable early in its life, and is of no benefit to the originator after his death.

There's a world of difference between an intentionally finite,
short-term monopoly on reproduction, whose intent is the long-term
expansion of the public domain, and the kind of strong rights associated
with physical property.
