Subj: [kl] Nielsen Concerto Copyright

Well....I have a clarinet-related copyright question for the list.
Does anybody know what the story is with the Nielsen Concerto and
copyright?

Kalmus sells a dirt-cheap reprint of it, and you can download the
score from IMSLP, where they claim it's in the public domain.

But it was written in 1928, so you'd expect it to still be under
copyright in the U.S., provided Nielsen or his publisher took care of
all the requisite formalities.

Is this a simple case of Nielsen failing to register or to renew in
the U.S., or did something else happen? Denmark and the U.S. have had
a bilateral copyright treaty since 1893, so the situation is not like
us and the Russians. (and even if it was, there's Uruguay Rounds...)

Seems like there may be a good story here. Anybody know what happened?
