Important clarification, thank you Bill :-)

Still -- there is probably space for a producer model where the sheet
music itself can be freely copied, as long as productions pay fees.
Factor in the marketing aspect -- the free publicity and increased
number of shows due to availability of material -- and that's a
conceivable model.

It surely won't work for the current big production companies, but just
as small bands are finding advantages in filesharing it wouldn't
surprise me if there are smaller producers who will take advantage of a
model along those lines, and could have big long-term success doing so.
