It's gone both ways -- the Berne Convention was responsible for the US
taking on various norms from European copyright law (including the fact
that copyright does not have to be registered, it's automatic at the
moment of creation). On the other hand, US-pioneered laws like the
Digital Millenium Copyright Act (DMCA) are now being pushed towards
Europe and other nations. There is also pressure on Europe to extend
its copyright terms to harmonize with US norms.
