I think it is 70 years, but I agree it is too long.

And some publishers are stupid about this also. Schott in Germany holds
the copyright on the Three Penny Opera which will expire in 10-12 years
or so. Instead of publishing this music and making some money on it now
through sales, the original and versions for larger ensembles are all
rentals. (You can buy the scores).

Also something that I don't recall being mentioned in the discussion is
that this is an international issues and some of the changes in US
copyright law aligned it more closely with the European standards.
