Indeed. But the constitution does not recognize works of the mind as
property in this sense.

(Neither does the law, although the term "intellectual property"
confuses things. That's why you have beautiful phrases in some law
articles referring to judges or legal scholars bemoaning the fact that
people do not understand that "intellectual property is not property".
Lawyers and politicians do seem to like to dig themselves such holes:-)

Well, the problem of most self-proclaimed communist states is that they
give people _some_ things for nothing and take away almost everything
else in the process, personal freedom first and foremost ...

However, I would suggest that giving people things for free is in and of
itself usually a good thing. It's when it starts having a negative
impact that it becomes a source of concern.
