I agree very much on that point, which is why I wouldn't suggest it as a
universal solution.

As for album sales dropping -- there are bands who report that the more
free stuff they give away online, the more their album sales go _up_.
It's not clear-cut. :-)

I would stress one thing, maybe as a closing note to this discussion --
whatever our disagreements over detail, we _are_ on the same side in the
desire to see both lots of new creative works and for creators to
receive a good and fair income from their creative activity. I carried
on the discussion this long because I think it's important for people to
think carefully -- with reference to what could be rather than what is
-- about how that could be achieved.

I know I've not convinced you yet, but give me time. I'm working on it. :-)
