If I remember correctly, this current thread on copyright started with my
attempt at sharing some of my jazz/balkan clarinet improvised solo
transcriptions. I thank Gary for the copyright violation warning, realizing
I should be more careful about sharing online. I'm also glad such a
fruitful discussion took place, especially at this time for us brazilian
authors and musicians, who are presently facing an attempt by the current
government to "modernize" our copyright laws and make the already
fragile copyright protection mechanisms we have "more flexible", in the
words of our last minister of culture Gilberto Gil (a Warner artist
(!!??!!), by the way).
But I'd like to ask William Patry, especially, if I should (I know I could)
be found guilty in case Hal Leonard, for example, sued me for sharing my
own Buddy DeFranco improvised jazz solo transcriptions with my coleagues,
for educational purposes only, since there were no commercial or credit
interests involved (I never signed any of them), and since technically, (and
please correct me if I'm mistaken here, legally and musically) they are not
compositions either.

Pedro.
