Sorry to disappoint you, but I don't know, although he was at RCM I believe and won the Thurston and Golden Jubilee prizes, so it is certainly possible.
As for me I'm an ex-army clarinettist/bassoonist and was afterwards a freelance musician and a woodwind coach. My main boast was that all the instruments I taught I had played professionally (i.e. someone had, at some time, paid me Union rate to play them).
Incidentally I'd be pleased to hear from any list members who were at Kneller Hall, 1959-60
