Subj: [kl] Situation
Date: Sat, 19 Jun 2010 23:39:39 -0400

I auditioned for an orchestra and made 2nd chair. They only ended up
having a couple of concerts during the entire year. The situation is
this: The principal chair could not make the first concert, so I played
principal. The second concert was scheduled and I committed to that,
but, they rescheduled that concert at the last minute for another date,
3 weeks earlier. I already had a previous committment. They used a
sub. Now the sub has taken my spot. I asked what was wrong with my
playing. They said that my playing was great and in fact, my sound is
quite a bit better than the other 2 players. They assured me that they
were quite pleased with my playing. The reason that they let me go is
because I could not play in the rescheduled concert.

The musicians handbook says that you will be dismissed for missing a
concert. I had not seen the musicians handbook until today. This seems
to be an unfair situation. I am just amazed at the situation. Any advice?

Deborah
