More than a decade ago I found the MIDI file on the web of Louis Spohr's Ok=
tett, Opus 32, for A Clarinet, two horns, violin, two violas, cello and con=
trabass. I downloaded it, imported it into Finale, fixed up a few corrupte=
d spots and put it up on my page without articulation and dynamics.
The articulation and dynamics have now been added. The files are available=
for download and your playing pleasure. Here's what Grove says about the =
Oktett: Three works =96 the Octet op.32, Nonet op.31 and Septet op.147 =96=
involving
a mixture of strings, wind and, in op.147, piano are outstandingly =
effective, indicating the extent to which the challenge of unusual =
combinations often stimulated Spohr =
to produce some of his best work.
It is a joy to play, but the violinist ought to practice a bit before givin=
g it a shot. It is clearly not for faint-of-heart virtuosi. =
Also, new on my page is a clarinet duo with piano of the aria from the "Mar=
riage of Figaro," "Wenn die sanften Abendwinde". This pieces was contribut=
ed with thanks by Seung-Soo Lee.
Happy playing, all.
Oliver
