In my experience (AMT mic + AT impedance transformer), turning on phantom
power has not affected the effect pedals I put in between the mic and the
preamp, although I've never been able to get a straight answer on whether or
not it could. Just recently I read that if you're gonna supply phantom
power to a dynamic mic, you better make sure the circuitry is balanced
(which it should be in most) - but what's the circuitry like in all those
little distortion pedals? Idk.

The best distortion sound I was able to get was through the 1980's Sovtek
BigMuff-Pi (the exact model David Gilmour of Pink Floyd used on his amazing
