Good question, actually. When when I send through a distortion pedal
or box, the signal doesn't have enough vibration (as in the
instrument actually vibrating) to get significant distortion. I think
that's why string instruments, which mike on the bridge, work so
well. I think the distortion box doesn't work well with acoustical
sound, tho I don't know why that should be true.

Maybe a stupid question, but what's wrong with just using a regular mic
and adding the distortion to that? Works for vocals, doesn't it ... ?
