This is what I don't get. This particular Selmer S has a big open sound, and really easy to play, relative to my more expensive Bay, Pomarico and VanDoren mouthpieces.
It feels like I get more air through the Selmer.
So I expected the tip opening to be bigger. Actually it is almost the same as the other medium tip mouthpieces.

I play Grabner mouthpieces on all my other clarinets, and they have that same feel of big dynamic response and ease of blowing. So you are probably right in that it has to do with the chamber, in some mysterious way.

The facing is only a part of the story. The chambers are different, so even with the same facing, a Selmer and a Vandoren will play differently.
