I am right now watching a performance by Yo Yo Ma and Itzchak Perlman
on channel 13. My question is, why do they have such extremely
pained expressions when they play? I am SURE they can transfer the
same emotion and expression to the music without the facial show. It
looks really bad to me.

In a similar manner, I have seen some clarinettists literally dance
with their instruments when they play, or move the horn in large
circles- it looks (to me) distracting and totally silly. What's that
all about?
