Subj: [kl] last call for Bill Douglas clar/bsn/piano trio commission
Date: Sat, 01 May 2010 17:01:19 -0400

Dear Colleagues,

This is a "last call" for anyone wishing to join the Bill Douglas
clarinet/bassoon/piano commission project. Bill has completed most of the
trio and expects to have it finished by the middle of this month. I had a
chance to read a couple of movements last week and can say that this trio
will be a spectacular addition to the clarinet and bassoon repertoire. One
of the movements is titled "Tunisia" and is very exciting as a stand-alone
movement...with driving jazz rhythms and a great interaction between
clarinet and bassoon.

If you or your group are interested, please let me know and I'll add you to
the list. If you aren't interested but still know someone who might be, I'd
certainly appreciate it if you could forward this message to as many players
as possible. Thanks for reading this message! I'll put the details of the
project below.

Dear Colleagues,

I would like to let all of you know of a new commissioning project for 2010
with composer, bassoonist, and pianist Bill Douglas. I am spearheading the
project to have Bill write a trio for clarinet, bassoon, and piano.

The work will have 4 movements, and be approximately 14 minutes in
duration. The flavor of the work will be in his usual style of long,
lyrical, singing lines influenced by Bach, lyrical jazz, African, Brazilian,
Renaissance music, etc.

In the past few years, Bill has been commissioned to write several major
works for woodwinds including the =93Partita for Bassoon and Piano=94, =93S=
ongs
and Dances for Flute, Bassoon and Piano=94, =93Lyric Suite for Contrabassoon
and Piano=94, =93Suite Cantando for Clarinet, Bassoon, and Piano=94, =93Su=
ite
Cantabile for Woodwind Quintet=94, =93Trio for Oboe, Bassoon, and Piano,
=93Celebration V for Bassoon and Strings=94, =93Songs and Dances for Oboe a=
nd
Strings=94, =93Celebration IV for Flute and
Piano=94, and "Quartet for Flute, Oboe, Bassoon and Piano". These have been
performed many times around the world.

With this new project, commissioners will have a chance to be part of the
creation of a major new chamber-music work and be recognized in the score
for their contribution.

The fee to join this project is $75 per commissioner. All participants
would be listed on the title page as contributors with their affiliation;
they also will receive a set of parts and score, as well as a recording of
the piece on sampled instruments. All participants would have a one-year
exclusivity agreement on performances before the piece is made available for
the general public. Participants may share the cost of the commission, but
for each $75 submitted, only one score and set of parts will be sent out.
Be sure to let me know if you are sharing.

Once we get a number of people signed up, Bill would anticipate completing
the trio by May, 2010. When the work is completed, I will notify all of the
commissioners and at that point, they can send the commission fee directly
to Bill.
