A friend of mine and I both have/had the Etude model -- his broke and he
now has Etude2; mine didn't, so I'm still using it. I've never asked him
whether he likes it or not. I'm not fond of Etude2s lack of adjustment
capability and haven't checked out the pricier model, but probably wouldn't want
to go there should mine break. My friend isn't complaining, though -- at
least not within earshot of me.

The 2 is the same general shape but slightly different and a little bigger
than the original model. They have eliminated the fragile
setscrew-in-an-open-channel design with a hinge that looks sturdier but eliminates the
separate vertical adjustment of the thumb hook. -- if you want that
adjustment I guess you'll need to buy the Maestro model which costs about eight
times as much (and looks funny). The plate that screws to the clarinet looks
the same as with the original model but is actually about .015 inches
smaller; so if you buy one to replace a crappy original model that broke you'll
have to change the plate -- the screw holes do look to be in the same places
at least.
The website says: " The Etude2 has a new metal
hook covered with soft rubber and a casing with improved
ergonomics." The hook sure looks like metal-colored plastic to me
though.
