I don't know how long it has been since the Ton Kooiman company=A0 ( www.to=
nkooiman.com ) replaced the Etude model thumbrest with the Etude2 but I jus=
t bought one so I'll give it a little review. =A0 This probably won't mean =
much to anyone who isn't familiar with the=A0 original.

=A0The 2 is the same general shape but slightly different and a little bigg=
er than the original model.=A0 They have eliminated the fragile setscrew-in=
-an-open-channel design with a hinge that looks sturdier but eliminates the=
separate vertical adjustment of the thumb hook.=A0 -- if you want that adj=
ustment I guess you'll need to buy the Maestro model which costs about eigh=
t times as much (and looks funny).=A0 The plate that screws to the clarinet=
looks the same as with the original model but is actually about .015 inche=
s smaller; so if you buy one to replace a crappy original model that broke =
you'll have to change the plate -- the screw holes do look to be in the sam=
e places at least.
The=A0 website says: " The Etude2 has a new metal
hook covered with soft rubber and a casing with improved =

ergonomics."=A0=A0=A0 The hook sure looks like metal-colored plastic to me =
though.
