Hi, Um, =

Excuse me Mr. Cohler, but this is not your buddy "Antoine's" email address.=
..
You sent this to a complete stranger,=A0and now you'll have to go through t=
he effort of retyping it to him again.

Hi Antoine,

FYI, I searched long and hard for this info about =

Cantil=E8ne when my CD Rhapsodie Francaise was =

published last year.=A0 Unfortunately, I came up =

empty handed.

Here is what I did find:

Jean Louis Baptiste Cahuzac (1880-1960)
Cantil=E8ne

A student of Cyrille Rose at the Paris =

Conservatory, Louis Cahuzac was one of the few =

solo clarinetists of the early 20th century. He =

made several recordings throughout his long =

career. In 1947 at the age of 67, he made the =

first recording of Carl Nielsen's notoriously =

difficult Clarinet Concerto, Op. 57 (1928), and =

in 1958, at the age of 78, he recorded =

Hindemith's Clarinet Concerto with the composer =

conducting.

As a composer, Cahuzac wrote several works for =

the clarinet including Arlequin, Pastorale =

C=E9venole, Cantil=E8ne, and Variations sur un air du =

Pays d'Oc. Cantil=E8ne, as the name means, is a =

beautiful "cantilena" or song-like piece inspired =

by the countryside in his beloved southern =

France. While built around a song-like tune, the =

work is filled with virtuoso scale and arpeggio =

work from beginning to end.

Let me know if you are successful in dating the =

work. I also found a recording of the piece with =

Cahuzac playing, BTW. Very interesting and =

slightly different from the published version.

Best regards,
Jonathan
