It is caused by shrinkage of the wood ... whether permanent or temporary ...
caused by a loss of water at some point & probably oil, too. Rings can be
shimmed with paper or similar thin material or rings can be shrunken ...
using a ring shrinking device. Try oiling the barrel first with a product
like those sold by the Doctor, Omar Henderson. Good luck.
