I once had a similar challenge. After a bit of cogging, I removed both
screws and gave entire lig an alcohol (not the drinking variety) bath,
after which I rubbed the threaded screws on a rosin block borrowed from
a viola player. For me, it worked quite well. While this may not be a
permanent cure, it may very well get you through a performance.
